Idol SA alum and gospel sensation Khaya Mthethwa won big last night at the 23rd South Africa Music Awards (SAMA23).
Ahead of the main show tonight to be broadcast live on SABC 1 at 8pm, the first round of awards were handed out on Friday night in Sun City.
Mthethwa took home two awards for his album The Dawn in the categories Best Contemporary Faith Music Album and Best Live Audio Visual Recording.
Rapper Kwesta and songbird Amanda Black walked away with one award apiece. Kwesta scooped Best Collaboration Award with his hit Ngud’ while Amanda won Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album for her release Amazulu.
They go into the main awards show tonight with four nominations each.
